Asrar Damdam
Asrar Damdam is a scientist and entrepreneur, holding a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from KAUST. Her work focuses on developing food preservation and technologies and the Internet of Things. She is also the founder and CEO of Uvera, a cleantech startup with a mission to reduce food loss and waste. Uvera's cutting-edge products keep foods fresh for longer, demonstrating an impressive average increase in shelf life of up to 97%, all achieved within 30 seconds or less and without the use of any chemicals. In acknowledgment of her groundbreaking scientific contributions, Asrar was honored with the prestigious L'Oreal-UNESCO Award for Women in Science in 2020 and the CES 2023 Innovation Award. Additionally, she has earned a place on various esteemed lists, including Forbes 30 under 30 list (2021), the Fast Company's list of the Most Creative People in Business (2022), the 50NEXT list of people shaping the future of gastronomy (2022), the Bloomberg New Economy Catalysts list (2022) and the MIT list of Innovators Under 35 (2024). Asrar's mission is to help reduce food loss and waste by the year 2030 and promote environmental awareness and sustainability at the consumer and retail levels.
